Phoebe (Fanning) is a talented young student who yearns to take part in the school production of Alice in Wonderland, but whose strange behavior sets its apart from its concerns class. Her mother (Huffman) is an aspiring academic who is starting to feel like she has not only failed in his professional career, but also as a father. Although Phoebe gifted drama teacher (Clarkson) has no doubts about the girl's talent and ability to learn, the frustration of seeing this promising student slowly slipping ever further from the truth soon becomes a growing concern both at home and at school.
